World-renowned German composer and music educator Carl Orff (1895-1982) established a unique musical teaching method for the use of instruments, called “Orff instruments”. It is divided into non-fixed pitch instruments and fixed pitch instruments.

In Orff’s teaching, instruments such as piano and violin are usually not used, but refined percussion instruments are used. Orff instruments can be divided into two types: those with fixed pitch, which can play the melody, and those without a fixed pitch, which can play rhythm.

On the market in the sale of wooden toys the most common materials are: pine, heba, basswood, basswood plywood, MDF (wood synthetic board, often said density board), beech, rubber wood.

Pine: cheapest (imported is more expensive), lighter, whiter, with larger grain lines, and more prone to cracking than other woods.

Lotus wood: most commonly used as a wooden toy, higher price than pine, high density, heavier, uniform grain, resistant to falling. Basswood: beige, light, no grain, resistant to falling, more expensive than the two.
